Instructional League Parents (Class A, Class AA League)
Here are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions you may have:
Q: When does the Class A/Class AA League game schedule come out?
A: Typically, the game schedules are not finalized until around mid-late April when the FBL finalizes all rosters. Seasons typically start the last weekend in April and end in early/mid-June.
Q: Who is my son’s/daughter’s coach and when will he/she contact us?
A: All coaches will be in contact with player’s parents by phone one to two weeks prior to the start of the season. They will introduce themselves and explain team-specific information as well as address any questions or concerns you may have. The season will start around the end of April or beginning of May.
Q: I registered my son/daughter many months ago and have not heard anything. How do I know we are successfully registered and on a team?
OR
Q: I just registered my son/daughter last week, when will I know if we are on a team?
A: If your check has been cashed OR your credit card has been debited – you can safely assume that your son/daughter has been registered. As the FBL registrar compiles the registrants and the commissioners allocate players to teams, we can address any concerns like this on an individual basis by email or phone after the start of April. Typically, commissioners do not receive updated registration lists until the first week in April.
Q: What time are games and what days are they on?
A: For Class A League, ALL games are usually played on Friday evenings from 5:45PM – 7:45PM AND Saturday mornings - Saturday times can vary between 9:30 or so to early afternoon
For Class AA League, you typically play Mon-Thurs (and sometimes Saturday) twice per week at 5:45.
Q: Are there any practices?
A: YES. All coaches should have practices because this is where the kids learn early skill development. For rookie league players, coaches can choose one of 2 ways to do this :
1) Have practice 1 hr before the Saturday morning games and prior to Friday night games if possible
2) Have a practice during the week at an available field
For Class AA league, coaches will select a 2-hour practice time as available. Typically this is on Sunday.
Q: How are the teams made and can my son/daughter play on a team with his/her classmates?
A: These teams are put together by school, when possible. The number of players per school, whether there is a coach from that school and other circumstances will dictate this as well. Special requests are honored whenever possible and should be made on the registration forms (in the comment section).
Q: What equipment do these players need?
A: The only mandatory equipment needed for these players are gloves. We strongly recommend that all players wear cleats, but this is not required. Boys that want to catch have to wear a cup. Hats and team shirts will be provided. Helmets, bats and baseballs are all provided by FBL. It is perfectly fine for a player to bring his/her own bat and/or helmet.
Please put the players Name on any of his/her personal equipment.
Q: What color pants should I buy?
A: Typically, players wear gray, white or black … with gray being the most popular and most versatile. Your coach will inform you of this prior to the season starting.
